U.S. government to freeze bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchanges, regulators say

The U.N. Security Council has approved a resolution banning the sale of cryptocurrencies and a move to freeze their trading volumes.

The resolution, adopted at an emergency session Thursday, says the currencies are prohibited under the U.

Anti-Money Laundering laws.

It also prohibits the transfer of funds in cryptocurrency exchanges.

The U.K.-based Bitcoin Investment Trust, which controls the majority of the market, said it was disappointed with the decision.
