Automobile exchange Bitcoin.com reported on Wednesday that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has not issued a ruling on whether or not Bitcoin.org can perform a fair market valuation of the virtual currency.
Bitcoin..com, which lists over 10,000 cryptocurrencies and exchanges in its website, wrote on Wednesday:”The SEC has not granted us a copy of their decision.
This means that Bitcoin.net and Bitcoin.exchange are not able to accurately determine whether Bitcoin is an investment, currency, token, or commodity in the marketplace.
Bitcoin is not traded on any exchange that uses this metric.”
Bitcoin.com said it will continue to monitor the situation and update its story as more information becomes available.
The report comes as a number of exchanges are now trading in bitcoin, including Bitfinex, BTC China, BTCC and Huobi.
